his D-18 is without a doubt a player guitar. It is not a collector guitar. But it's a GREAT player. It is a bona fide Banjo Killer. (Sorry, Earl.)

It has a new bridge, a new un-Martin-ish fingerboard, steel frets, and it's been Plekked. It sports a rather inelegant, almost Guild-style lacquer refinish, ca. 1962, when it was not a particularly old or valuable guitar. Unsure if the pickguard is original or 1950s-era. The bridge plate is original. All that being said, it sounds great and plays like a dream. Top thickness varies between 3.4mm in the lower bout to 2.6mm around the soundhole.

Strangely, this guitar lived right next door to me in southern California when I was a kid. I never knew that until the owner came walking into the shop. hadn't laid eyes on him in 45 years. Weirld old world.
